The league was born in 1996 as the LHSPQ also known as 'Semi-Pro'. Back then the league had 13 teams all around the province of Quebec. We could see many changes throughout the years seeing many teams moving to other cities and different rules modification but the league kept his core values. The league is known around America to be a tough league with a lot of fight but still showing an excellent hockey quality. It's in 2002 that the league change his name for the Ligue Nord Americaine de Hockey (LNAH) as we know it today.

2012-2013 Season
The league now counts a total of 7 teams for his 16th season. Teams are located in Sorel-Tracy, Cornwall (ontario), Thetford Mines, Saint-George-de-Beauce, Saguenay, Trois-Rivières and Rivières-du-Loup. This is a perfect league for players that have played in high levels and still want to play competitive hockey. The league is set so that players can manage to work during week holding usually two games a week during the weekend. Therefore fans get to see a interesting mix of passionate hockey players with different hockey background and life situation. There is also a rule saying that every team has to dress at least 6 players under 26 years old always bringing new players with energy making sure that the quality is always increasing. After a 48 games season, the Canam Cup is given to the playoff's champion.
